Trying out paddle boarding for the first time? Don’t worry, it is super easy and super fun, if you have been fishing for tips online, here is your one stop page for the basic tips on the water sports for beginners.
Balance is Everything
Do not underestimate the technique of perfect balance in this sport. During your first time, all you will ever want is to just stand on your boat, only to find that you were too hasty and that you need to learn balance first.
This is not that difficult; you can begin by kneeling low first, with our buttocks touching your heels, then switch to a high kneel. This is when you are standing on your knees. From here, shoot straight up to standing. When you stand up, you will see that both of your feet are wider than your hips, do not change this position, just make sure that your toes are slightly outward pointing, with your knees a bit bent. You can engage your core and have your entire body responding to the waves that start rolling in.
Paddle Boarding in the Ocean
You do not necessarily have to paddle board in calm waters if you don’t want to. For people with an appetite for the extreme sport, you can take your board out to sea; there are rental offers at kayaks and boards that will let you do this with a guide in tow who will walk you through the works.
When paddle boarding in the ocean, we’d recommend that you start early when the water is less dramatic. The wind picks up in the afternoon. If you roll off the board in the waves, you will have a splashy landing in the water. In rough conditions, it might feel like you are struggling with a heavy workout routine more than having fun paddle boarding. You don’t want to break the waves – you want to smoothly head into the swells of water.
The best thing to do here would be to paddle into the breeze and paddle out so you are not fighting the wind. When you find that you are tired you can you can easily make your own way back to the shore.
Getting the Right Board
Consider this more of a rule than a tip. When you are renting out a board, you should let the rental service that books paddle board tours know that you have never tried this before, they will make sure you are as comfy as possible. But if you know that balancing, and indulging in any water sports activity has never been your cup of tea, ask for a wider board, this is more stable.
