I need a head count of everyone joining the clean up of the island we adopted tomorrow. It’s very nice but there’s a lot of trash in the camp area and debris on the trails that needs to be cleaned up. Apparently no one’s been caring for this island for some time. So I’m in need of a volunteer island clean up crew to help me with this project. We will launch at DJ Wilcox Preserve (see below for directions) tomorrow (Saturday) at 9am. I will supply the kayaks of course and anyone that has their own boat, kayak, or jet ski is more than welcome to join us. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer and need a kayak to use. I will be supplying garbage bags and rubber gloves also.I need a head count of everyone joining the clean up.So please let me know if you are coming and if you are bringing anyone else with you so I can have kayaks for everyone. Pack a cooler with your beverages. The lunchbox coolers fit very well on the kayaks. I will bring lunch for everyone (Turkey sandwiches).
From Fort Pierce, follow US 1 north; from Vero Beach, follow US 1 south. From I-95, take the Indrio Road exit. In all cases, you end up at the intersection of Indrio Road and US 1. Drive east to CR 605, the Old Dixie Highway. Turn north and pass Michigan Street. Pass the trail head parking for Indrio Scrub. Continue to the next right hand turn, Wilcox Road, into D.J. Wilcox Natural Area. Follow it to the end and park near the lagoon.
