Rent a Kayak before Buying One

by Barbara Cosden in Things to Know 0 comments

Here is Why Renting a Kayak is Better than Buying One

It is difficult to make the decision of buying or renting kayak, here are all the reasons why renting a kayak is one of the best decisions you could ever make.

The Cost
Think about it; how often are you really going to see your kayak? When you buy a kayak, you are biting off a chunk from your account. A brand new kayak can cost anywhere from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars, depending on the type of kayak and the quality that you go for. If on the other hand you go for kayak rentals, you will find that they are a much more affordable an option and provide you with more features than buying would ever get you. With renting, you just have to show up for the activity and not have to worry about the vessel or any of the preparations – that’s the job of the kayak rental service.

Learning how to Kayak
If you are a beginner, you will need some time and guidance to learn the ropes at the sport. It is better that you seek out a service that teaches, helps you experience, and lets you see enough about the sport that you may be able to make a better decisions buying the right gear and the type of vessel for yourself.

When you Decide to Buy, You Are Not Just Buying the Kayak
First off, all kayakers need quality equipment to complete their kayaking experience. For instance, a Personal Floatation Device alone can cost up to $120. Then, you need a good paddle, which is always sold separate from the boat itself. Good paddles can cost anywhere between $200 and $400. The reason that these are sold separately is because paddles are chosen according to a person’s height. When renting, the kayak rental service has these at hand for all their customers.

Finding a Space for Your Kayak
If you have a clean and empty garage then you are good as far as storage goes, but if you don’t, you might need to design a strap system or build a rack where you can keep your kayaking boat and equipment. Kayak maintenance entails that you keep the boat away from exposure to harsh weather and off the ground. When you rent, you don’t have to bother with storage or spring cleaning.
