The Different Types of Kayaks Available for Rent

kayak rentals, kayaking tours

Kayaking is one sport that is sought out for different reasons by different people. Some just want to see what’s it really like to be in a vessel that keeps starring in commercials promoting an adventurous brand image; others have been kayaking their whole life and want to get back to it on weekends; the list of purposes goes on. Check out some of the most common kinds that you will find in a reputable kayaking service.

Recreational Kayaks
Recreational kayaking is basic kayaking that is done on safe water bodies, mostly lakes that are well protected. There are boats that are used in rental fleets local parks and are also found on the shores of local lake homes. These kayaks are designed to be stable and wide. There is zero experience required to paddle these and therefore speed is not one of their best features. The only reason one chooses these at kayak rentals is to have fun in the water.

Sea Kayaks
Sea kayaking is the activity that is executed out in the ocean. These kayaks are designed for unpredictable and massive water bodies. The kayaks have two bulkheads that are sealed; one of these is in the front while the other is near the stern. When kayaking at sea, it is extremely vital that the kayaker is knowledgeable about navigation and the rules.

Touring Kayaks
Touring usually takes place on protected water bodies, but that does not mean that this is the boat that only beginners should go for. Touring kayaks may look like sea kayaks, where they have a single sealed bulkhead behind a paddler. The bow area of a kayak is never sealed, which means that if flipped, the kayak will be filled with water in no time, making this the primary reason why kayaking tour services use these on protected areas.

Whitewater Kayaks
They call it whitewater kayaking for the creeks and streams where this is done and the white water that is present here. This is the most exciting but also the most dangerous kind of kayaking there is, and therefore reserved for pros. Whitewater kayaking has different sort of paddling like creeking, squirt boating, river running, play-boating etc. Depending on how serious a kayaker or a paddler is, they may even need specialized vessels for each kind.

Surf Kayaks
This sort of kayaking, even though done in open water, does not make use of sea kayaks. This is a lot like surfing. Instead of a board picture a kayak and paddles. This too is dangerous and is always taken up by pros.
